Dameron Angus is hiring a Beef Cattle Herdsman to join our team in Lexington, IL (about 45 minutes east of Peoria). In this role you will assist managing our registered Angus cow herd and take ownership of the day-to-day responsibilities of a high-quality cow/calf and donor cattle program. We are a family-owned registered Angus cattle operation located in central Illinois. Our family's roots in the Angus cattle industry date back to the 1960s, when registered Angus females were added to our existing commercial cow herd. Today, Dameron Angus maintains approximately 200 registered Angus cows with a focus on producing elite Angus genetics and high-quality cattle that compete at the national, regional, and local levels. Our program has produced multiple national champion bulls and numerous champions at the National Junior Angus Show, Illinois State Fair, and other shows across the country. We offer competitive compensation of $60,000+ based on experience, paid time off, paid holidays, health insurance, and housing available to the right person. What you will be doing: Manage the day-to-day care of the registered Angus cattle herd, including feeding, nutrition, and general herd oversight. Monitor calving, breeding, and reproductive management, including AI, donor cattle, and other herd reproduction activities. Manage herd health, including vaccinations, deworming, fly control, tagging, tattooing, treating routine health issues, and maintaining cattle records. Support pasture and facility management, including rotational grazing, fertilizing, spraying, bedding, manure handling, mowing, and general farm upkeep. Operate and maintain farm machinery and agriculture equipment, including tractors, skid loaders, trucks and trailers, ATVs/UTVs, balers, and other equipment. Assist with hay and crop production as well as other seasonal farm and agriculture operations. Prepare cattle for photography, shows, exhibitions, and sales while assisting with livestock marketing, customer interaction, and cattle delivery. Coordinate daily activities with other farm employees and supervise full-time, part-time, temporary, and seasonal employees as needed. This job is for you if you have: Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Livestock Management, or a related field preferred but not required. High school diploma with 5+ years of relevant beef cattle experience will also be considered. Strong working knowledge of beef cattle management, including nutrition, calving, breeding, reproduction, and herd health. Experience working with cow/calf operations, registered cattle, Angus cattle, or livestock genetics is strongly preferred. Experience safely operating farm equipment and agricultural machinery. Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing. Experience with cattle management software is a plus. Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required. Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently around cattle and farm machinery. Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis as required by livestock and calving needs.
